Jacques Cartier started his first voyage on April 20, 1534. His voyage lasted 137 days. He had 2 small ships of 6 tons, equippted with 6 men each. On his way back he wrote a circumstantial report of his voyage. Next year the king gave him a commition th continue his exploration.
